Police work with prosecutors in criminal investigations, gathering evidence necessary to obtain convictions in the courts.
The agents in the courts are the prosecutors, defense attorneys, and judges.

Functions of this system include probation, parole, jail, prison, and other sanctions, such as electronic monitoring and house arrest. All is in order to protect public whilst rehabilitating / penalizing offender.
